Voyager 1 is transmitting data again after NASA remotely fixed it
Voyager 1, after months of efforts, is properly communicating with NASA, sending back intelligible data on its status. The spacecraft had been experiencing issues with its onboard computer, which affected data packaging for transmission to Earth.
Launched in 1977, Voyager 1 has surpassed its initial mission, now approaching 50 years in space and operating in interstellar space since 2012. The team at JPL successfully transmitted a fix to the spacecraft, which operates with less than 70 kilobytes of memory and digital tape.
NASA's team celebrated the successful reconnection with Voyager 1, while notable figures like astronaut Chris Hadfield highlighted the achievement's significance given the probe's distance and age.
